Assignment 3 - Trailer analysis

The trailers genre is horror, which is about a house that is frightening an innocent family by a demon and several souls who used to live in that house.

This scene is shown as if they are actually filming the scene inside the movie actual movie, which may portray to the audience that they are showing that they are keeping a record of it as evidence to apply further research and that what they are doing is no joke. In this particular scene they are using ghost-detecting equipment, this shows the audience that something scary might happen and that this entire scene is filled with tension. The lighting is dark showing that they are in a dark place, giving the audience a clue that it is a dark and vicious story. The protagonist isn’t looking direct into the camera showing that he is busy in is work while he is shocked by how dangerous this is, showing the audience that it is a hard job and that ‘something’ over there is hard to deal with.

In the next scene the characters start to introduce themselves and give a brief idea on what they do and who they are. This will help the audience understand what their role is in the movie and what kind of things they solve. This will also clears any confusion from the first scene. This scene is set in a lecture room, which shows that these to people are famous and are passionate about there work. The lighting is high key showing a good environment to learn and understand what they are talking about. The music used in the background is quite, calm and vintage, it then gradually gets louder cutting to a different shot in order to introduce different cases solved by them giving the audience a complete understanding of the characters.

Later the trailer then starts to build up and show what the movie is actually about. A mother comes looking worried and helpless. The shot used is a close up showing her pain and tension. This scenes is a very important as the audiences feels her pain and is proved correct once there is a voice over of that scene going over a scene of the house were “horrible” things are happening.

After that they show a picture of the women’s family to introduce and show that this family is going through a horrifying and frightening experiences and that they will suffer a lot despite their innocence.

From know the trailer starts to show some scary scenes so the audience will understand what them, as an audience will see and what the poor and innocent family will experience.

In this scene one of the daughters in the family gets pulled of the bed. This scene is set in the children's bedroom, which is in the possessed house, this action occurs very unexpectedly, and fast which makes it more frightening and breath taking. The colour and lightening is dark showing that its time to sleep and also suggests about how the darkness is hovering over them and disturbing them. It can also suggest that the night is the demons territory. The girl is wearing cute pajamas, showing her innocence and how gentle and sweet she is, creating sympathy in the audiences heart and show how cruel the ghost or demon is. The position the girl is sleeping is showing that she is vulnerable and sacred and that she is trying to protect herself.  There are two shots cut into each other to show the fast moment of her being pulled. The shot used is a long shot showing the entire area to prove to the audience that how frightening the demon is and how it attacks is with no mercy. This is a very important scene as this starts to show the audience key elements of what’s going to happen in the movie.

In this scene a little girl is screaming while cuddling her self, this means that she is trying to protect herself. In the girls eyes and the ways she is acting you can see the pain and agony this will make the audience feel how horrifying the situation is and shows how frightening it is. This scene is again in the bedroom showing that the demon scares the kids, as they are foolish and fearful.

Now the trailer shots goes faster as its is showing snaps scenes from the movie, meaning that the music will get faster and louder creating tension.

In this scene the main characters, or the people who were helping them are shocked and surprised, this shows the audience that it isn't easy and this is an extremely difficult case.
The shot used is a close up of both however the main focus is on the man showing the audience that he is trying to protect his wife from the horror.

This scene shows that the mom is getting and developing bruises showing that without getting scared the demon is harming you giving you pain. This hot is a close up of the mothers arm. The bruises are shaped in a way a tiger or wild creature would bruise her, the colour is so dark showing that the darkness is eating her up.

The children are getting pulled around casually in front of everyone alerting the elder members who have come to help and put a stop to the demon to leave and stop helping. This shows how helpless the kids are who are suffering all the time and no one can help.

In this shot it shows some sort of action scene using a gun that is firing an actual fire instead of bullets producing a bright light. This shows the audience that this house is unbeatable and that they are going to do so much to stop this. The use of a fire fun may suggest the theory of witches and the only way to kill them was to burn them. The shot is a mid-shot adding focusing on the gun and the door being shot.

The demons are hurting the mother giving her pain, this scene is set in the house, and again this happens unexpectedly showing that there is no time to rest. This scene is a close up of the mother shouting.

Again people are shouting. These scenes are filmed as a close up to show that different people are getting scared, the age and person doesn't matter, this is a terrifying house.

A scary, frightening face that pops up scaring the woman who is helping the family. This scene starts off slow after all the fast scene; this sets a scary atmosphere, as when you end a trailer with something slow and effective it will attract many more audiences. This shot is first a mid shot then cuts into a close up to show and focus on the terrifying face.

Ed warren he is represented as tough and that he isn’t really frightened of anything. Loraine warren is represented as she can handle things like demons however she can see what is beyond an human eyes ledge. This character also seems as she is hiding something and gets worried easily. They are represented in such manner as it creates a sense of interest towards the audiences as questions like “why are they like this and what is there history” appears in there mind persuading them to watch the movie.
The mother in the trailer is represented as a loving and caring mother who is not afraid to ask for help. She really wants her family to be save however she is suffering a lot and is need of help herself. This character is very stereotypical as every mom sacrifices herself for her children.
The children/daughters they have been represented as valuable and weak who get easily frightened. This is very stereotypical, as young girls always are the victims. The family were shown to be a very happy and cheerful until such darkness had come into heir lives. This creates sympathy in the audiences mind.

There are a few voice-overs when they show the cases solved by the warrens and when the mother pleads for help. Most of the voice-overs are over pictures and scene of one thing.
There area lot of use of captions they are bold and are coloured white, which is easy to see from eh contrasting dark colour as in black.

Some sound affects are included during more intense scenes that go faster to add tension and create mystery and suspense.
